Jaguar XK8 Battery Disconnection
Disconnect battery ground cable.
Removal Procedure:
1. Open the driver's door, or both doors if necessary, to allow the side glass to drop. Ensure that the doors remain open until after the battery has been disconnected.
2. Remove the luggage compartment floor panel (when standard size spare wheel is supplied) and the battery cover.
3. Remove the negative lead. Reposition the front edge of the side trim for access to the ground stud.
- Slacken the clamp of the negative lead at the battery terminal. Disconnect the negative lead from the battery terminal.
- Remove the nut from the ground stud.
- Remove the negative lead.
Installation
1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
2. Perform the Battery Reconnection Procedure
Issue: * With the introduction of multiplexing on the XK8 and V8 Sedan Range vehicles, it is imperative that the vehicle battery is disconnected prior to disconnecting and reconnecting any control module Failure to follow this procedure could result in permanent damage to the modules and/or a module causing vehicle components to operate.*
* On XK8 vehicles, the window position memory is lost whenever the vehicle battery is disconnected.*
In addition, disconnecting and rapidly reconnecting the vehicle battery can inhibit the operation of the analog clock.
This bulletin describes the proper procedures to follow.
Action:
Always disconnect the battery negative cable before disconnecting or reconnecting any control module.
Disconnect the negative cable first and reconnect it last.
*After disconnecting either or *both of the vehicle battery cables, at least 30 seconds before reconnecting the last cable.
* Always make a "clean" final connection. If the cable makes momentary contact only, wait another 30 seconds before trying again.
Once the cables are tightened:
- reset the clock on XK8 vehicles
- reset the window position memory perform the Engine Control Module (ECM) adaptation sequence
RESETTING XK8 DOOR WINDOW POSITION MEMORY:
1. Enter the vehicle and ensure that both of the doors are closed.
2. Turn ignition to position II.
3. Lower the driver's window to its fully open position and hold the switch in the down position for 5 seconds.
4. Raise the window to its fully up position and hold the switch in the up position for 5 seconds.
5. Open the door to verify that the window drops 12 mm. Close the door to verify that the window closes.
6. Repeat the procedure for the passenger door window.
ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) ADAPTATION:
To expedite the adaptive learning process for some functions of the ECM, perform the following procedure:
Warning: Perform this procedure with the vehicle on a firm surface (not on a lift) after ensuring that no danger exists to surrounding personnel or property.
Caution: Do not exceed the engine speeds and time durations listed.
1. Engage P and allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature.
2. Press the A/C button to turn the climate control off.
3. Apply the service and parking brakes, and move the transmission selector lever to D.
4. Allow the engine to idle for an additional 2 minutes.
5. Gradually raise the engine speed to 950 RPM. Hold this speed for 45 seconds.
6. Raise the engine speed to 1200 RPM. Hold this speed for 45 seconds.
7. Raise the engine speed to 1500 RPM. Hold this speed for 30 seconds.
8. Allow the engine to return to idle. Move the selector lever to P and switch off the engine.
